Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Management Team

Enhanced Care’s management team with their twenty years of experience, are particularly successful with community-based residential care for young people with challenging disorders and behaviours in Gateshead, County Durham and Teesside.

As an integral part of Enhanced Care’s ASD Therapeutic Services approach, we work in partnership with the young person, their family, carers, and other professionals to provide a multi-disciplinary team approach.

This includes working alongside psychology, speech and language therapy, counselling, occupational therapy and alternative therapies. In short positive partnerships are vital to achieving a consistent person-centred approach to planning and similarly goal setting and supporting the young person to celebrate their achievements.

Care

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.

Autism is a spectrum condition, which means that while all people with autism share specific difficulties, their condition will affect them differently. Accordingly, some people with autism can live relatively independent lives. However, others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support.

Education

Our Autism Spectrum disorder homes is in Durham. We give a unique blend of research, experience and best practice to suit each young person.

We support his or her learning, understanding and choice-making, therefore enabling each young person to lead a fulfilling and happy life.

Our achievements are through an approach that maximises young people’s strengths, abilities and interests.  Therefore enabling each young person to identify their starting point and create a plan.

In this way, they can reach their full potential. The areas we focus on for young people with autism spectrum disorder are communication, integration, and emotional and physical well-being.

Outcomes

We have a strong belief that every child and young person can achieve. Our residential children’s services are committed to monitoring, measuring and improving outcomes for each young person in our care.

We understand that each young person with Autism Spectrum Disorder is unique, and as a result, they have other goals, wishes, needs and aspirations.

They also have different starting points. We aim to support each young person to achieve different milestones within different timescales.

Practical Life Skills

Above all, we believe no matter what a child or young person’s level of abilities are, their future development will benefit from developing ASD life skills from an early age.

For Children with Autism Spectrum disorder in Durham, we utilise the TEACCH system.

This provides a structured approach to organising the day and a structured layout for learning and living spaces. By scheduling a timetable for each day, we reduce anxieties and promote the young person’s independence in managing their day.
