Learning Disabilities –

Therapeutic Support

Our Learning Disability Services in Durham and the North-East use a number of person-centred approaches and methodologies.

These include:

  • structured timetables
  • communication strategies
  • positive behaviour plans
  • adapted learning and living spaces, to help reduce anxieties and promote independence
  • stimulating environments
  • proactive strategies to help the young people develop skills, to change and manage their own behaviour
  • an active lifestyle that the young person enjoys, which can also reduce stress and help decrease some of the stereotypical and repetitive behaviours associated with LD. In addition we aim to work effectively with our young people and their families to provide positive meaningful outreach work for children with learning disabilities in the Durham area.
